Some people report cleaning the lens helps but that can do further damage if you
use a disc type cleaner. I don't recommend blowing air inside as that can do damage
to wires, and componants as well as blow dust into positioning mechanisms. I always
disassemble the unit and clean the lens manually but rarely does it help for long.
If you are using CDRW media, it is the worst for failure and data loss. Never trust
CDRW madia for anything, especially long term. Personally, I would have liked to
have seen the same tech as the Sony mini-disk in an affordable media, the size of
a CD (in both CDR or DVDR). Then you would see reliability and longevity very close
to a pressed CD. I have mini-disks that are over 8 years old, been through rough
handling, rewritten and edited hundreds of times and still error free. Good Luck!
