    Not enough video resolution / Not enough colors

First, right-click the Desktop then click *Properties*
and try to tweak the settings.
(I just threw this in for anyone reading over our shoulders;
you've got this covered.)

Trick 1   Check the Advanced settings
Start; Run; Open "MSCONFIG"; (Enter).
In the System Configuration Utility: General; Advanced.
Make sure the **VGA 640 x 480 x 16** box is NOT ticked.


Trick 2   Restore an old copy of the Registry
While booting, hold down the F8 key.
At the menu, select **Command Prompt Only** and (Enter).
This will put you in Real DOS
with a DOS Prompt like  C:\> .
Type  SCANREG  /RESTORE    (Enter).
From the list that appears,
pick a backup that is dated before this problem started.
A valid choice will have **Started** beside it.

NOTE: Windows keeps 1 backup copy per day
for each day you boot to Windows.
By default, there are 5 copies.


Trick 3   Reinstall the video device driver
Go to the Web site of the manufacturer of your video card.
Get the latest device driver for your card model (see below)
and for your operating system (Windows 98).
Note: You may have a disk that came with your hardware;
check to see if there is a more recent (better) driver available.

Hold down the Windows key
and hit the Pause/Break key in the upper-right corner.
Select Device Manager.
Click the + sign beside Display Adapters.
(If you click Properties; Driver,
you can see what you have--if it hasn't been deleted.)
Highlight your driver and Remove it.

Reboot[1].
When Windows offers to reinstall the device driver,
click **Have Disk**
and point it at the disk/folder where the driver is.

Reboot[2] to finish the process.
