Actually my solution may not have been the best really. For starters the re-install
wiped my Linux partition and as I didn't do a full wipe and install it's quite possible
that the malware that might have been causing the problem is still there/here. My
subscribed connection isn't working at all so prehaps I DO need to do what you suggested
the first time around...........
