|The sound plays about 30 seconds ahead of the visual,
|which hesitates as much as 1 minute on a single scene.

Does *any* AVI work properly?
I'm guessing this clip was screwed up by whoever made it.
Does any *video clip* work properly?
Have you shut down all other running processes?
