You simply have too many fonts for w98 to cope with gracefully.

Some possibilities:

1. The Windows Registry has a fixed limit on space for the filenames of the **installed**
fonts. If they all have short (8.3) filenames, the limit is 1024 fonts. Unlikely
cause, but take a look at this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=131943

2. Long font names mean the limit of 1024 comes down.

3. Despite the above, it is generally reckoned that 400 fonts will cause system slowdown
or worse.

4 Damaged Font Folder: Download TweakUI and run Repair Font Folder. But you still
need to reduce the number of fonts you have installed.

Suggestion: copy most of your hundreds of fonts to another place on your HDD and
uninstall them. Just install them when you need them.
