Jon,

Replace IE, might be a good idea. Remove IE, not such a good idea.  Unlwss of course 
you're going to run 98Lite or one of the other Unauthorized (not Supported by MS) 
versions.

Like it or not, MS is, and will be the best source of info on your Operating System. 
Just think of IE as a Desktop Shortcut to that info.
