I have a Win2K machine in the basement (1.7 Cel, 256 RAM) with a 32 MB ATI-chip AGP
Video card, and the ATI
video driver gives you the option to select 24-bit color (as well as 16-bit and 32-bit).
I don't know if it's the 'current' (latest) ATI video driver, but it works fine...
My old 3dfx Voodoo 5 card (remember those?) also gave you a 24-bit option, in addition
to 16-bit and 32-bit.
"32-bit" is the same amount of colors as "24-bit" (16.7 milllion), the extra 8 bits
are for the alpha transparency layer.
Any 32+ MB video card should be able to run any 'realisitic' resolution in 32-bit
color (3D Games and Vista's Aero Glass effects etc. excluded). This is why a lot
of the 'modern' video drivers don't bother having a 24-bit option.

AMD Athlon 1.1 = 98SE & XP Home SP2 - 512 MB RAM
AMD Athlon64 3000 = 98SE & XP Pro SP2 - 1024 MB RAM (98SE RAM access limited to 768
MB)
IBM ThinkPad PIII 900 = 98SE & XP Pro SP2 - 384 MB RAM
