AVG itself neither sees it while it is actively spawning, nor is it able to do any
repair after it does find the damaged files (new dates, and virus at the end). I
have to make a special Safe Mode run with Vcleaner from Grisoft. With the array
of precautions in force, and the primary ('net) PC being an older one with Win98
only on it, that system has been unpenetrated by worms or Virii throughout its long
life.
Adware and Spyware, yes, those got on when that stuff was still new, but I also changed
to Mozilla about then, because I hated popups, and Netscape had no builtin fix.
So with Ad-Aware, AVG, SpyBot, and Spyware Blaster, and regular updates, no problems.
Somewhere I'm visiting now, possibly Bethesda's Elder Scrolls game forums (been there
every day lately), is reinfecting the machine every day! I hoped I could ask at
the adware/ spyware forum about maybe a further HOSTS update not covered by Spyware
Blaster, that sources this freaking worm!
