The only real way to be certain is to reapply the update(s) manually via the WinUP Catalog. Using the WinUP scan as a test to see what is offered
doesn't work too good when an applied update fails to show up in the Add/Remove Programs
list like it should have. The problem is one of where in the process did the update
fail? After the files were copied over but then NOT registered? Or halfway thru
the registry write portion of the update's inf file? No one can say at this point.
The WinUP scan can check for specific file versions and it will also check for some
registry keys and data contained therein, BUT not every update gets checked thoroughly
enough to spot a partial (failed) update. The WinUP scan system is not perfect.
The update DID fail as it does not show up in the Add/Remove Programs list, it and
the other 3 updates should be downloaded manually and reapplied. It is a MAIN issue,
and of paramount importance that the update is finally listed in the Add/Remove Programs
list. Especially since this an IE cumulative update containing a half dozen core
IE files and the OP states that his IE is broke.
The Father-in-law states later in this thread that the 912812 update is listed, perhaps
he was talking about the WinUP history file, which really means nothing at all.
I say that because WinUP history will show 13 successful installations of the same
update when the truth of the matter is that not even one was successfully installed.
It's only a download history and no way a decent indicator of anything else.
