|Thanks for your response Geng.

You're welcome--and that's "gewg_" (like "goog").

|55% system resources free
|
That's something you want to improve (by paring down the Startup List).

||How much useless junk are you running?
|| gewg_
|
|mstask.exe - no action taken but probably ok.
|
M$'s automated-task manager.
Many programs that need periodic updates
have their own built-in schedulers these days.
The only thing that uses this any more IME is Windoze.

|zztp - keystroke logger - I have unchecked it but is still there
|
Its presence is evidence that you are a VERY unsophisticated Windoze user.

|I have downloaded and run Adaware (got rid of 404 instances),
|Spybot (16),
|
More supporting evidence Re: my hypothesis.

|latest AVG (0) and ZoneAlarm (0)
|I have also turned off email scanner in AVG as it is also running in ZoneAlarm
| - is that a good decision?
|
NO. Different functions. You are unclear on what ZoneAlarm does:
http://www.google.com/search?q=What-is-a-firewall

Until you become MUCH more aware of what constitutes good online security
(and even then), you need all the help (crutches) you can get:
http://www.google.com/search?q=SiteAdvisor-Plug-in
(This DOES NOT work with that PoS which I disparagingly call Internet Exploder;
yet another reason to dump IE--see below.)

|I also took the actions to increase my security and privacy settings
|but they made IE unusable
|
Somehow you have missed the admonition for all Windoze users
to USE A MORE SECURE BROWSER.
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/1142663471

BTW, even many ostensibly "sophisticated" Windoze users
have trouble getting M$IE to a reasonable level of security
(which even then STILL falls short of the levels of security
offered by the free alternatives available).

|So[,] having done all the above[,] the problem still occurs.
|Could it relate to AVG...?
|
*I* would suspect the (malware) keystroke logger.
Not only is this the classic definition of spyware,
it would seem to be POORLY WRITTEN spyware
--making you aware of its presence by malfunctioning.
(The Sony / Bertelsmann Music Group rootkit on their music CDs is such an infection:
it is so poorly written, it makes your system run noticeably slower.)

|PL2515.exe - not clear on google what I should do
|AR2507MON - ***unknown-not found on google - pls advise***
|
|
I'm not a malware expert--far from it.
(I'm not one of those "close the barn door after all the livestock is gone" types.)

One last nugget: You need someone who is good at solving infection problems.
Carol J is savvy about such things, but her presence here has been sparse lately
(and such things are better handled in specialized fora IMO).
There is a list of malware forums at the bottom of this USENET post:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.privacy.spyware/browse_frm/thread/428ecef8647500d
?q=cexx+TomCoyote+SpywareWarrior+aumha+geekstogo

After you have gotten an idea of what is available,
choose one and follow the forum rules there
to get help getting rid of your infections.
