The IE favourites file folder shortcut is ultra-hidden in the start menu (even if
you “show all hidden files” etc….) and it will not show up on the windows explorer
address bar via in the start menu explorer window.
The shut down/log-off and other items in the start menu that you do not see in the
folder are again ultra hidden.
If you want quick access to an app, then you can copy a code to clipboard:
$0 (means “go”)
C:\widows\winmine.exe (location of the app)
-s –t l (meaning “select” “the” “Ink”)
When you copy the code, the app will run. It is a lot like cammand.com, because you
are telling the computer what to do. However, these codes can be dangerous if you
perform a complex task so therefore you do this at your own risk.
You can permanently delete items in DOS and they will not appear in the recycle bin
when you exit. However, deleting system files will state “access denied”.
Here are some “dangerous” DOS codes: http://www.computerhope.com/secret.htm
The FF file folder contains “history.dat” which records cookies, and you may clear
the history data in the cache but this DAT item will still prevail recording your
sites. If you use CCleaner it states apps that create DAT, LOG and other unwanted
item files. You can clear history.dat with CCleaner, it states “details of deleted”
and history.dat is their (always reliable to free up space on the disk without corrupting
the registry). You can view the DAT file in WinWord or Notepad to check the content
is coded in squares or “0s”(erased) the data turns invisible after the next deletion
operation.
IE uses a lot of system resources. Sometimes you cannot type in the address bar due
to the index.dat items are taking up to much space. And it takes two hours to install
IE - - no wonder why there are leaks.
Does your anti-virus app scan within archives? If you have too much of your own created
data on the hard disk, you should use WinZip or a different compression app. This
will save storage up on the hard disk clusters. However, storing your data in serveral
email accounts via draft attachments is useful as well - - but every three months
you may as well delete your past work. Storage is only a temp solution.
The only items you need in general to use a computer of yours are the installation
equipment.
Don’t your think it is annoying when you use explorer? The explorer side bar… You
can’t see the contents of the file folder in full. And when you select another file
folder within the original folder, it appears in a new explorer window and so on
to any other file folders.
The only problems that I have had with FF, is that when I print a web page/email,
I select printer properties, I receive an invalid page fault. And yes, I have run
ScanDisk but the error still prevails.
Did you know that when you uninstall apps via add/remove programs, that the app file
folder is still in the “Program Files” file folder, but the folder has no contents
in it – that is another annoyance.
And I would not by any new CD installed software in use with the W98 OS, because
you need certain drivers and XP & 2000 have already got these installed.
Did you know that Zone alarm free firewall has discontinued for Win9x users, only
2000+ can install the software? However, I have Hurricanesoft Internet Security firewall
2006 (compatible with Win9x), and it controls what apps are running on your system
and traffic on the Internet - - better than Zone Alarm due to its ability to monitor/block
unknown/unwanted system processes.
