video players not playing .MKV files

I've got a .mkv video file that'd I'd like to play. So far I've tried VLC Player,
BS Player, MPlayerC, WMP and Zoomplayer and Zoomplayer has been the only one able
to play the file. It works fine except for certain parts of the video when it goes
in slow motion, then goes back to normal speed at times...this makes the audio go
of course as well. I was told that deleting real player would help, but it didn't.
I've also tried a .mkv to .avi converter. Any help would be nice, thanks.
