Have fewer programs running.

How much useless garbage loads at Startup?
If your System Tray is full of icons, clean out the bloat.
(In addition, stuff that runs at Startup doesn't necessarily show up in SysTray.)

Start; Run; Open "MSCONFIG"; Startup tab.
Un-tick everything EXCEPT what you absolutely need running at startup:
Explorer, Systray, Scan Registry, Anti-Virus, and Firewall.

(There may be some other things on *your* box that NEED to be in SysTray,
but that is rare.)
