If you have (or can borrow from someone) a Microsoft (not an OEM restore) 98 or ME
disk, buy a copy of XP upgrade. You can do a full install of XP from the upgrade
disk and it's cheaper than the "full" version. Boot from the upgrade disk and early
in the process it will say it couldn't find a qualifying version of Windows on the
HD and will ask you to insert a qualifying Windows CD in the CD drive. After it has
determined that it's indeed OK you''l be told to remove it and put the XP disk back
in and the install will proceed as normal.
