|I have a computer that has windows 98 on it,
| ken
|
Then use it.
|all i got was the computer, no disks,
|so I got a windows 98se disk with a produt ID number,
|
Put it aside until something blows up.
|and I would like to install windows 98se on it.
|
I thought you said the box already has 98 installed on it.
|Do I just put in the disk and follow the what the screen says,
|
This will appear to work--until it asks you for a Windows Product Key.
If what you have is a number of the form xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
(and that number is valid),
when you enter that, you will get a basic Windoze install.[1]
If what you have is a "produt ID number" (whatever that is)
and you enter that, you will have a doorstop.
|or should i format the hard disk and then follow what the screen say's?
|
There is an option to do that in the install procedure.
I still don't understand your motivation.
[1] This ASSuMEs that the Windows distribution disk
contains device drivers for each hardware device in your box
(and that those are good enough to run things reliably).
I have yet to see why you want to poke the bear.
