was: Missing MSVCRT.dll, 98 wont' start, startup disk not loading

Because you thought you were searching for the *biggest* problem.
You're not.
|[...]about an hour later she tried to start it up
|and it gave her a page fault error that MSVCRT.dll was missing.
|
Interesting--but the Visual C runtimes are FAR from the most significant problem.
|She had been deleting old files to make room for new stuff,
|
Now we get to the heart of it.
|The main problem is that the start up disc is not being read,
|
"Startup Disk" == bootable floppy disk.
To what are you referring?
|and I can't even get the system to start up in safe mode.
|Is there a way I can access DOS,
|and then put that dll into the system file from there?
|
The contents of the hard drive sound thoroughly borked to be.
If Windoze had been installed for only an hour,
the SMART thing to do is to just reinstall the OS.
...or you could chase your tail for a week
figuring out what all files she deleted
then trying to replace them one-by-one
--and still not have a well-behaved system.
