I will leave you to actually try out the suggestions in my previous posts before
going into any of those options with you in more detail.
The yellow question mark and the yellow exclamation mark may be old, but they could
still be part of the cause of your problem, if (for example) those old, faulty device
drivers are causing a driver conflict with some newer device. The only way to be
sure is to sweep them away, in the manner I've suggested previously.
You diminish the chance of curing your problem if you retain those faulty device
drivers. You can always put the faulty devices back later, by doing a SCANREG /RESTORE
to revert to one of the 5 saved registry backups (Windows saves one such backup a
day, so that you can go back 5 days if necessary).
A "Ghost" entry is any entry that *only* shows up in Safe Mode. These should be deleted,
in general, when troubleshooting a device problem. It's the only way of curing certain
types of driver conflict.
However, it is not wise to delete any ghost entries under "Sound, Video and Game
Controllers", unless you have a *lot* of computer expertise, because they are very
difficult to restore. On balance, I would not delete any ghost entries under that
heading.
