"If so, and you can bring up the start menu, you should be able to access RUN. Then you should be able to repair I.E. That may fix the problem." I didn't know this had anything to do with the registry. How do i use the run function to fix this? Scanreg says there is no problem (i'd already been through it with system mechanic and ccleaner, though that may well have been afterwards, and with no effect).
