Look for a tiny hole in the front of the drive.
If there is one, straighten a paper clip and push it in. When it meets resistance,
keep pushing and the drive will open.
This is not like taking a screwdriver and using it as a chisel cum crowbar to get
something open. The CD drives were designed to be opened that way.
CD drives die of overheating. You may have to get a new one. There is a strange
superstition among us Americans that the CD drive must be the top one in the case
where heat cannot rise away from it. Skeptical people put the little used little
1.44MB floppy there in an adapter rack and put the CD drive below that. The floppy
does not run continuously so it won't overheat and heat can rise from the CD drive
around it.
