upgrading windows 98 to windows xp Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 5:24 pm Windows 98 Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Ann (1 messages posted) I was upgrading my old laptop from windows 98 to windows xp. The installation said it was successfully complete and was going to reboot on its own. After the reboot, windows will not open and it will not let me open in safe mode either. When I do open in safe mode I get the following response : Warning: Windows has detected a registry/configureation error. Choose, command prompt only and run SCANREG. The following file(s) are missing or corrupted: C:\windows\HIMEM.sys; C:\windows\DBLBUFF.sys; C:\windows\IFSHLP.sys. I have accepted that I need to reinstall windows and I will loose all my information, but I do not have the reistall disk for 98, only for XP. Even when I put the cd in the drive, it doesn't read it so I can't load it. Please can anyone help me? I just want my laptop back!
