I turned on the power to my pc and the icons appeared as usual. I even got the windows music, although it was a bit choppy. I clicked on internet explorer and it went to blue but never opened. I could not get any other icon to go to blue while this icon remained blue. If I clicked on another icon first after restarting the computer then that icon would stay blue and not open. When I hit alt, ctl, delete it read msnmger was not responding. I hit end task and then alt, ctl, delete again and this time it read explorer was not responding. I did this several times with the same result. I tried to run adaware in safe mode but after seeing it reach 32 registry errors (and I deleted these) the adaware would shut down with the blue screen showing that the system is too busy. I could not get the adaware scan to complete. I would like to try and go to an earlier registry (scanreg/restore) but when I click on start in regular mode nothing happens and in the safe mode going to DOS is not an option, it only allows to shut down or restart. It does not have the third option to reboot in DOS. Could someone please help me out of this situation for I am dumbfounded. The computer worked fine about 10 hours ago. Thank you very much.
