I'm sure it has no on board sound card because there's no place to plug in speakers. Yes, installation is on a CD. The only message when the drivers won't load is that it apparently can't use what's on the CD and asks if I do not want to install the device at this time. Also, I tried to manually load drivers from the CD, then install the card, but I get the same problem. Thanks again.
