"The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device
file no longer exists."
That just means there's still 'reference' to something in startup that no longer
installed, so naturally it can't load at boot. Removing the reference to it, whatever
it is, will eliminate the error message. Had you recently uninstalled something?
Try restoring a registry backup then post back here and let us know if that worked
or not. There are only 5 backups by default. Start/Shutdown, choose Restart in MS
DOS mode, or...
Reboot and press the CTRL key, just before Windows loads, until you get the boot
menu. Choose Command prompt only.
At the C:\> type: scanreg /restore Press enter. A good backup will have the
word "Started" before it. Choose a date Prior to this problem. Then hit Enter. You
should get a message that Windows successfully restored the registry. Then CTRL_ALT_DEL
to get back into Windows.
