Who's boot disk are you using?
If you don't have the correct CD Rom drivers on there then you won't read the CD.

Why do you need to use a RAM drive?
I've never used a RAM drive anytime I've formatted and rebuilt. I think the default
Win98 bootdisk uses a RAM drive.
