Ok John so we now know the CD will work in DOS.

How long have you noticed this problem. If its within the last 5 days then you could 
try a Scanreg /restore to restore the settings when it did work correctly.

As the computer is starting up keep the Ctrl key press until you see the DOS menu 
and choose Command Prompt Only. At the C:\ just type Scanreg /restore 
with a space in between and select the earliest date shown, and retart.
