Well, since you've made it so clear, help should be coming in waves. 8-(
Standard practice is to paste a link into your post (using the QuickLink button)
to show the page you are trying to follow.
Did any of these mention FDISK?
|when I start the format process in DOS
|
One ASSuMEs you never see anything resembling Windoze in this process
(NOT a DOS Box under Windoze).
|it starts to format until it reaches 18% then errors out,
|
EXACT error messages are useful.
|when i run the boot disk,
|
Describe that process briefly for us.
|it runs a scandisk
|
I'm confused. Automatically??...or do YOU run SCANDISK?
|and checks other areas but errors out at 16%
|then says it can not continue to format.
|
When SCANDISK spits back a drive, that's usually a bad sign.
Got access to SpinRight?
Most drive manufacturers have a set of utilities.
It is generally advised to use those on the drive.
You haven't said what happened before you started this
or what conditions exist to cause you to do it
...or if this is a brand new drive
...and you haven't mentioned the SIZE of the drive.
If you can't locate any manufacturer's utilities,
a usual process is to use FDISK to nuke the old partition(s),
create (a) new one(s), **then** FORMAT.
