|Apparently a cardbus will not work in a 16 bit slot,
|but a 16 bit will work in a cardbus(32bit) slot.

You have answered your own question (i.e. "card is not backwards-compatible").
|my model of laptop only takes a 16 bit PCMCIA card Type II.

Have people in The Great White North got so much money
that they ignore the Used Goods marketplace?

Are people who live where the effects of Global Warming are most obvious not Green?
Do they not observe the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle thing?
I would think people in remote regions
--especially those who are looking for ancient technology
which will be used with an ancient OS--
would be familiar with that well-known aution / used goods site.
Put your search terms into the search engine there and see what turns up:
Ethernet + PCMCIA + Type-II + 16-bit + Windows-98
BTW, when posting here, ticking the **preserve your spacing** box
and inserting 2 carriage returns now and then is a Good Thing(tm).
