Thank you for answer, I did all again and again, 3 times what was suggested in the web sites that you send to me but no change, multimedia is still gray-out and no sound, I download new driver for CMI8738/C3DX media and the only thing I managed to get is a sound for cd-rom to listen my CDs, with direct x I test direct music with C-media wave device and I got a sound, but when testing direct sound there ware no sound and this error: No driver. Why I can hear cd plying and sound test with directx but I can hear wave and other sound files? When I try to listen to wave file with windows media I get this error: Can not play back audio stream no audio hardware is available or a hardware is not responding, from windows media player error center I got this message: There is no sound card and Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000. Microsoft support web site does not give me much help for windows 98 problems and in help sound troubleshooter no answer to my problem. In device manager in sound, video controller there is a CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device, Game Port Joystick and Wave Device for Modem all devices are working properly. In Multimedia Properties the PCI Audio device in Pctel serial wave device have this status: Driver is enabled but inactive do to unknown problem. In Multimedia in audio under preferred device the is:No playback device and No recording device. I don't know much about computers, when I have problem I always search for answers in forums or search web sites for solutions but I need help, I don't know, do I need sound card or just driver download and what driver I need or what audio hardware I need to download ? and a few month ago my modem lost its dialing sound. Thank you again. Sincerely, Majda
