Sounds like it may have something to do with the option you selected when you installed 
Windows over Windows. If you left yourself the option of uninstalling the new Windows 
installation and reverting back to your previous Windows installation, the old installation 
will be backed up on your hard drive. I don't remember where the files are stored 
exactly but I recall installing Windows over Windows years ago resulting in a hefty 
chunk of hard drive space being taken up by the uninstall information. 

Run "Disk Cleanup" and make sure the box next to "Uninstall information" is checked 
and click OK. It will delete the backed up old Windows installation.
