Thanks for the very helpful post. I hope the original poster finds a solution. My
experience of fixing 98 shutdown problems with MSKB articles hasn't been good - there
are too many (other) causes. That's why I suggested googling - you find other people
with similar situations to your own if the 'prescribed' fix doesn't work - which
at least give you more chances of a fix that does work.
