gewg_ , you finally hit upon the only valid reason I would ever have to start using
the term "CMOS Setup" and that is because it is used as such at every POST
screen display - good job.
But that doesn't fix the CMOS nomenclature debacle where they left out the word "memory"
- as it should always have been and forever should be included to be fully "CMOS
memory Setup". And this merely denoting the battery backedup capabilities of this
new-fangled static RAM thingy they just came out with circa 1980 or so (the exact
year will not be a bone of contention for me - sorry). Data retention in Static
RAM with the power off was only possible because of the "new" CMOS technology at
that time and that was never a valid reason to use the term like it is incorrectly
used in the term "CMOS Setup". But if you add in the word memory it becomes a meaningful
usage. That no one else will also use correctly, and obviously they don't...
As to the other debate, Kiwi could you please back me up on this? I contend that
all 98 OEM CDs are bootable and NONE of the Retail 98 CDs are bootable. At least
as far as I can check, 'tis so under my roof. Anybody got any data that says different?
My Retail Upgrade ME is also not bootable, so I'm assuming that Win2K is the first
to have all CDs bootable, is that also correct everybody?
OEM CDs have the text "For distribution only with a new PC. For product support,
contact the manufacturer of your PC." and Retail CDs do NOT have that text anywhere
on them. Again, everybody - correct?
