Recently I had an epiphany (or whatever). I have 2 partitions with 2 versions of
Windows. On the Win2K partition I added a free aftermarket defragger that worked
much better than anything else. It kept offering to defrag my Win98 partition.
I was afraid it would move something that was supposed to be immovable. After much
trepidation I risked it and it worked fine. It was the fastest defrag of my Win98
that I had ever had.
Recently I was tinkering with my Win.ini file and followed some website's suggestion
to comment out some stuff. Win98 started and locked with an error message. But
this time instead of booting to the menu and selecting DOS, etc, etc, I rebooted
to Win2K. Locating and fixing a little text file in my (aftermarket) ASCII editor
was easy.
So even tho Windows wouldn't run I used Windows to fix Windows.
To save him the effort of commenting, I think it is safe to say that Gewg would recommend
Linux for that purpose.
