Before anything else, do try the **without restarting** technique he posted.

If you've never had the higher capability,
you'll likely have to skip down to Trick 3
--which is the same direction in which Keith pointed you
WRT the driver for the video card (aka "display adapter").
You can think of a device driver
as a software adapto-kit between the hardware device and Windows.
Another way to think of it is as a star-shaped tip on your cake-decorator tool
so that the icing comes out of the squeeze-gizmo looking like you want it to.
