computer doesnt recognize both hard drives

i just added a used 30g HD to an older computer that also has a 4g HD. The small
HD has the little tab in its hole (slave?). Anyway, after booting up, the desktop
shows the icons that go with the larger HD. I tried to access the smaller HD but
could not find it going to My Computer and Windows Explorer. Also, I put a Netgear
cd in the cd rom drive to begin the process of adding a wireless adapter to connect
to a router in another room, but there was no recognition of the cd. Could this
have something to do with which HD is being recognized? My guess is that its just
a setting of some type. Although I can certainly go out and get a new PC, the part
of me that enjoys challenges would love to get this one working properly. Any ideas
and help would be appreciated. Thank you.
