Wendy,
This could be several different things. Possibly your Hard Disk Drive, Hardware,
or Ram (Memory).
Kind of a tough problem for your first Post here.
If you have an Emergency Boot disk (floppy ) for your your operating system, try
this.
Shut down your computer and restart with the floppy in your A: Drive. When you get
to the A: prompt, type fdisk/mbr, then hit enter. Nothing will happen, but this is
what should happen.
Pull the floppy and restart your Computer. Post back with results. record any errors
EXACTLY as they appear on screen.
Resist the temptation to try a bunch of different things while waiting for a reply.
The more you do the harder it will be to figure anything out.
When you Post back, include speifics on your Computer. Brand, Model#, Processor and
processor speed. Exact Operating system...Win98/Win98SE.. How much installed Ram
Memory.
Patience Pays here.

There's nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.
