Boot ends shortly after you hear a single beep (after POST and after the bootloader has found a device containing a boot sector.) Windoze will continue to bitch until you give it the minimum hardware it requires. I got my last keyboard for $2 at a second-hand store. If I'd asked around, I might have gotten one for free.
