Many of the big OEM machines won't give you an option to boot unless there is a KB
attached. Some off the shelf motherboards will have a BIOS setting to allow to continue
booting and disregard errors, which will pop up without a KB. A mouse is not necessary
and the machine probably won't complain about that, but a KB is necessary and of
course, you need a KB for doing anything, including what a mouse can do if you know
your keystroke commands.
On the network, it sounds like you will need additional hardware to work. No way
around that either. A hub is cheaper but a switch is better and they are pretty
cheap to free, depending on where you live and if people just want to get rid of
hardware.
