Changing Icon size as you did most likely corrupted your ShellIconCache file which
now needs to be rebuilt properly. This can only occur if you use the Start Menu|Shut
Down Windows dialog box and not a desktop shutdown shortcut that uses either SHExit
Windows or exit Windows functions. The ShellIconCache file is ONLY ever created
or re-written when the Shut Down Windows dialog box shows and at no other time is
this file written.

Sometimes this process gets trapped in limbo and one needs to delete the ShellIconCache
file manually from the Windows folder in order to start over. It will have it's
hidden attribute set so in order to even find it, you have to have Windows Explorer
set to "show all files" via View|Folder Options|View, round checkbox sometimes called
a bolt in British english. BUT the last time I tried to delete it using Windows,
it just got recreated at shut down just a fast as I was deleting it and it was the
same 5 meg size as it was before which means, it was NOT a new file as I wanted.

So I'm thinking if you delete ShellIconCache file from true, boot up DOS mode it
should work first time, every time. So re-boot to DOS mode and do this:
attrib c:\windows\shellI~1 -h
attrib c:\windows\ttfcache -h
del c:\windows\shellI~1
del c:\windows\ttfcache

Then press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and reboot into Windows and then use the Shut Down Windows
box to reboot into Windows for a second time and your quick launch icons should return.

As you explore various folders, the need for more icon storage requires a larger
ShellIconCache file, each time you shutdown Windows with the Shut Down Windows box,
the file grows in size and one can observe this by having Explorer on the Windows
folder in the right pane while opening the Shut Down Windows box and watching the
file show up at the bottom of the folder after canceling out of the the Shut Down
Windows box. My DOS mode instructions includes deleting the ttfcache file as it
too can become corrupted and then it needs to be renewed as well and in the same
way as the ShellIconCache file.

TweakUI's
rebuild all Icons function also deletes the ShellIconCache file but I'm sure using
TweakUI to rebuild your icons would give the best overall results with less hassles
too. You will still need to start using the Shut Down Windows box at least occasionally.
