Then Boot from your 2000 CD. At the Partition Screen Delete the old Windows Partition. This gets rid of all the old Files. Then you create a new Partition, Format, and the Install Starts. After 2000 is installed visit the Device Manager to see what Drivers are missing, and track them down on the Internet to install. I like to use a new install for a couple days before I start installing all the other programs. Makes it easier to troubleshoot any problems.
