Trying to reformat with windows 98SE

Hi, I'm having trouble getting my computor to accept format C: When I type the format
C: at the A:\> prompt I get the message "Bad Command or file name". Any one have
any suggestions or if you know were to go for help reformating win98, I would appreciate
anything you can tell me. I've done it before but not for a long time and maybe
I've forgotten to much.
