Need help to create diagnositic partition

I have an older Compaq Armada 7330t laptop, 150 speed, 64 meg of ram, 6 gig hd, of
which I am the original owner. I had to replace the original 2 gig hd, went bad.
I'm using Win98 as the os, fresh install. This unit is only being used for basically
one function and I like Win98. The problem is when I installed the new os, I didn't
install, or even know, that I had to create room for the compaq diagnositics which
apparently are installed in a small partition at the beginning of the hd. I have
2 floppy discs with the necessary info to install the diagnostics, this is where
I'm having the problem. Here's a shortened version of the message I'm getting: "Not
enough disc space to create the diagnostics partition. To install Compaq Diagnostics,
you must free at least 2 megs of drive space at the beginning of the hd. Also there
must be an entry in the master boot record for this partition info. Caution, if the
partition that exists is of type 12H, do not remove from master boot record. If this
partition is at the beginning of the hd, it will be increased in size to make room
for the Compaq Utilities program."
So basically I need to know how to make space available at the beginning of my hd
and how to insert needed info into the master boot record.. I can actually run the
Compaq Utilities from the 2 floppies, however it would be nice to be able to access
them on startup using the f10 key, which right now is not available.. any help would
be appreciated, thank you
