Your search engine technique need work:
from Google Groups -- Google_Web_Search_Help-UsingWS

e.g. http://www.google.com/search?q=extended.offline.self-test+S.M.A.R.T.

Think of it as SCANDISK/SURFACE (aka Scandisk--Thorough) but on steroids.

It's not quite the best you can get for analyzing a drive's condition
http://www.google.com/search?q=Spinrite+legendary

but it is part of the free utilities that came with your drive:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Self-Monitoring.Analysis.and.Reporting.Technology

Just curious? ...or having problems?

If you've ever run Scandisk(Thorough),
you know that writing to EVERY spot on the drive to see if it is working right
takes a LONG time.
