OK, guys, seems that I have finally found (thanks to suggestions found in this thread)
a solution for my particular problem which is somehow connected to the Quick Launch
Bar icons' sorting order.
My problem was that sometimes, at very rare occasions, the icons on the QLB were
loosing their sorting order which was very upsetting as I usually have 4 full-screen-wide
lines of them groupped by area using a separator in form of a blank/empty icon. It
usually took me quite a long time to return to the previous sorting some 150 icons.
Today^H^H^H^H^H Tonight I finally found a way how to save the sorting order of the
QLB icons for later restore in case of wreckage.
0. I presume that generally your QLB works as designed and I presume that more or
less you understand what you are doing in Windows
Saving the QLB look
====================
1. Arrange the icons
2. Open the RegEdit
3. Export to QLB_OK.reg file the following Registry branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop
4. Wait for havoc which for sure will happen later or sooner
Restoring the QLB look
=======================
5. Load the QLB_OK.reg file into the Registry (use "regedit.exe QLB_OK.reg" from
a command line or just doubleclick the .reg file in the Windows Explorer)
6. Very important step - without it the saved sorting order will not be loaded!!!
And if you do it wrong you may have a little trouble - open the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del
- click Task Manager), open the Processes tab, start typing explorer.exe, check if
proper task has been chosen, klick End Process button, confirm the operation - don't
close the Task Menager yet, click File menu, chose New Task, type explorer.exe and
click OK.
7. Enjoy! :-)
