OK, version 1.1 of the procedure:
0. I presume that generally your QLB works as designed and I presume that more or
less you understand what you are doing in Windows
Saving the QLB look
====================
1. Arrange the icons in the QLB
2. Click Start button, then chose Turn Off Computer, press and hold Shift key on
the keyboard, click Restart (this saves the settings of the Desktop), release Shift
3. Open the RegEdit
4. Export to QLB_OK.reg file the following Registry branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop
5. Wait for havoc which for sure will happen later or sooner
Restoring the QLB look
=======================
6. Open the RegEdit
7. Export to QLB_Bad.reg file the following Registry branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop
- just in case
8. Load the QLB_OK.reg file into the Registry (use "regedit.exe QLB_OK.reg" from
a command line or just doubleclick the .reg file in the Windows Explorer)
9. Very important step - without it the saved sorting order will not be loaded!!!
And if you do it wrong you may have a little trouble - open the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del
- click Task Manager), open the Processes tab, start typing explorer.exe, check if
proper task has been chosen, klick End Process button, confirm the operation - don't
close the Task Menager yet, click File menu, chose New Task, type explorer.exe and
click OK.
10. Enjoy! :-)
