If you had fewer things loading at Startup,
it would be easier to troubleshoot Startup problems.

|...the message" msvcr71.dll was not found".

It would be nice if Windoze error messages
would include the full PATH to what it is looking for.

|The thing is, I checked the location---c:\windows\system---and the file is there.
|
It would also be nice if Windoze would use a *common* set of dependencies files
(as Linux does)--instead of allowing each app to install its own copy
and ending up with a dozen copies of the SAME file scattered all over the HDD.

|So, I renamed it msvcr71old.dll
|and then downloaded a new one to that location and deleted the old.
|Rebooted and the same message came up again.
|
Are you **sure** that that PATH is the one the app is looking for?

|Now, the location---c:\programs\yahoo\pager---is the same.
|
I don't understand what you are trying to say.
Try again using more words or arranging the words differently.

|It's like my computer is not seeing the two msvcr71.dll files during boot up.
|
Again, you are ASSuMEing that those are all the possible PATHs being sought.

The first thing I'd do is run MSCONFIG (link above).
After that, start apps **as you need them**.
Windoze's Startup time will be improved and troubleshooting complexity reduced.

If you suspect an app (Yahoo's) is throwing the error,
uninstall that app and reinstall it.
The dependencies should be reinstalled--and in the locations the app requires.
