Thanks for the search Gewg. I like how it finds topics, using the right wording.
Quite as list of possibilities, and would take time to go though.
MS site under "Known Issues", misses a step to arrive at PCI BUS. I always have
difficulty using MS help. I found the sequence at another site.
I looked at the other sites, which seemed to mimic MS's site.
I dont want to change BIOS since mine is dated 7-15-95. Don't think I can.
IRQ Steering is a possibility, and doesn't look too hard.
Neanwhile, at this site, i browsed topics and came accross a recent autoexec.bat
topic. I was wondering why I have 7 autoexex. entries in C:/
1 responder mentioned that "you shouldn't have any". I found 2 entries in msconfig-autoexec.bat
tab. 1 was for my av (AVG) which starts a 'boot up scanner...the other fot autocad.
By un-checking these 2, the computer starts up showing hardware information, which
it didn't before. (probably because autocad set a new path
to /program files/common/...
By uc-checking these 2, iniatial information is shown, including CPU temperature.
Tempurature was a whopping 45 degrees C. Normally runs about 30 degees C. It's now
at 32 degreec C, after cleaning.
A while back, I was having other problems, and found that cleaning the CPU heatsink
helped. Not very hard....but make a sketch of of the orientation of the fan/wires/electrical
plug(yellow wire toward right..or whatever.
A clip holds the heat-sink/fan assembly....A tricky clip holds the heat-sink/fan
on top of the CPU. Be careful and note how the ends of this clip is attached. Try
to re-install after you release the clip. Wiggle/pull plug from the MBoard.
4 screws hold the fan to the heat-sink. Remove screws...detach fan from heat-sink.
Clean heat-sink from accumulated dust with a small brush(old tothbrush can work);
re-assemble in reverse.
My CPU temperature has dropped from 45degees C...to #32 degrees. Has made a differene
before.
So far, this has made a difference, although 1 time during the process it did hang.
This is something easier tha google results, which do't mention HEAT.
In conclusion, I recommend cleaning your heat-sink, since accumulated dust will make
your CPU run hotter.
I don't see this task in any of the solutions.
I tried to edit into paraghaphs, but doest seem to work.
