Pretty nifty, Gewg, no more clouds at start-up. Still takes about the same amount
of time to start/ready...about 2 minutes and an extra minute to load av & firewall.
Not sure how it compares, since I only have 128mb ram @233mhz.
While following your advice and links, I was using my xp laptop side-by-side the
win98 puter. I was trying the t-shooter methods, and I had no shut-down problems.
However, I never connected to the internet using IE6, while doing the tests. I seemed
to recall that I had shut-down problems on days that I was on the internet.
I do have Spyware Blaster installed. Under "Tools", there is a 'Flash Killer" I had
checked to stop the annoying animated flash content. Supposedly, web pages can show
up faster by reducing this flash content.
So, I tried un-checking the flash killer box. Now, after using IE6, the puter shuts
down OK.
I tried again this morning by re-checking the box, going on-line, then shutting down.....back
to hanging at shut-down.
So,...I guess I'll put up with the stupid animations, or use the power button on
the puter when it hangs.
Thanks so much for your help Gewg, I've learned more stuff in the process.
Who would of thought that the flash killer was the problem. Do you think that re-installing
Spyware Blaster may change things. Unfortunately some programs (for win98) aren't
supported anymore...like Spybot S&D.
BTW, I was able to download the Supplement under Article 239887 on the xp laptop,
but when I try it on this win98....I move the cursor over the 'DOWNLOAD' button...I
get a text box saying "Picture of a download button". Gotta say MS site is frustrating
at times to navigate and find stuff.
