Hard drives *do* wear out. Anything with moving parts in it will eventually need
bearings, and we simply don't repair Hdds. Replacements are far less expensive than
repairs. However, it is the bearings in various FANS that wear out first, normally.
That especially includes the fan in the PC power supply.
Depending on the condition of the drive, when you have its replacement ready to use,
you may be able to copy the old one's contents while it is temporarily allowed to
sit under or next to the old one, jumpered as the Slave drive.
When I've ignored the Hdd's warning signs myself, and not replaced a dying drive
soon enough, I have been able to bring some of them back for an hour or two at a
time by literally FREEZING them in my refrigerator's freezer. It's something to
keep in mind.
In closing, and in case it isn't clear enough otherwise, you aren't in need of any
"Driver", and there normally just wasn't any such thing for the computers
that ran Windows98 back when that was still a viable operating system (yes, to any
cynics, there were SCSI drives all the way back to the 8088 / 8086 days, but since
that's a pretty specialized item, I'd usually expect the owner of such a drive would
know enough to *SAY* he needed a "SCSI" Driver).
