It's obvious that you made an effort, but here's how your post looks:

The "Update Driver" button in Windoze is a steaming pile.
Trusting M$ software to make decisions for you leads to disappointments.
In addition, see "vendor support" (below.)

The error message you are getting is gibberish.
\Windows\TEMP\ is a location ON YOUR MACHINE.
There is no reason to "download" something that is *already* local.
direct.b1 is a mechanism of the driver wizard.
The wizard is now talking in circles and is useless to you.
Again: "Update Driver" button == crap
It's time to switch to MANUAL mode.
The easiest way to install a device driver (succesfully)
is to have the driver install file(s) on removable media.
(It's harder for Windoze to screw up a CD.)
Do you have the disks that came with your computer/card(s)?
The 2nd-easiest way to do this
is to go to the device manufacturer's site with your browser
and download the driver from there for your device/model (and your OS).
Again, getting the file(s) onto removable media is best.
Caveat: When dealing with a 10 - 11 year old payware OS,
you often find that vendor support became non-existant long ago.
(Putting your device type into Google sometimes turns up a useful driver site.)
If you don't know what device(s) you have, you need a "SysInfo utility":
cache of http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000017.htm
When you have the the replacement driver's install file(s),
Remove the damaged device driver using Device Manager.
Restart the computer.
Windoze will pitch a fit about a missing driver and offer to reinstall that.
Just point Windoze at the location of the driver; your CD-ROM drive is likely D:
