The particular error message which you are getting typically means that you are trying
to install software that does not support Windows 98.
The "missing export" error refers to the fact that the software requires the Windows
operating system to provide certain functions (software routines). The error message
indicates that the functions which the software needs are not present in the version
of Windows you are running: this is typically because the software is calling a Windows
XP function which does not exist in Windows 98.
Some functions were added to Windows 98 Second Edition that did not exist in Windows
98 "Gold" (a.k.a. Windows 98 "first edition"). So it is worth upgrading to Windows
98SE (Second Edition) if you are using the original ("Gold") version of Windows 98.
But unless it says on the box that the printer's software supports Windows 98, the
chances are that this model of printer will NOT work with any version of Windows
98, not even with Windows 98SE.
